Once everyone is picked up, we’ll travel along the Bow Valley Parkway, a scenic stretch of road that was once the original highway connecting Banff and Lake Louise. This beautiful route winds through forested landscapes and is a popular area for wildlife sightings (no guarantees), adding an extra layer of discovery to the journey. We’ll also make a short stop at Morant’s Curve, giving you time to stretch your legs, enjoy the iconic mountain views, and perhaps catch a glimpse of a passing train while enjoying a coffee or tea from the van. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating stories about the land’s wildlife, history, and ecology, offering a deeper connection to the breathtaking landscapes you’re about to explore.
Upon arrival, you’ll have up to four hours of free time to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of Moraine Lake. This extended visit means you won’t have to rush—you’ll have the freedom to explore at your own pace. Stroll along the lakeshore, hike the short but iconic Rockpile for that world-famous viewpoint, or rent a canoe and paddle across the turquoise waters.
For those craving more adventure, Moraine Lake also offers access to incredible hiking trails. Journey to Consolation Lakes for a serene alpine setting, or challenge yourself on the world-renowned Larch Valley Trail. In the fall, this trail becomes especially magical—mid-September to early October is when the larch trees are at their most vibrant, transforming the valley into a golden wonderland and making it one of the best hikes of the season.

Tours begin in Canmore, with Banff pickups approximately 30 minutes later.
Please be ready 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time.

How much time do we get at Moraine Lake?
You will enjoy approximately 4 hours at Moraine Lake.
This gives you ample time for photography, lakeshore walks, canoeing, hiking, or simply taking in the scenery at your own pace.
Will we arrive before the crowds?
Yes. We schedule our departures, so you reach Moraine Lake before the major crowds, allowing you to enjoy a quieter, more peaceful atmosphere.
What is Morant’s Curve in Banff?
Morant’s Curve is a scenic viewpoint along the Bow Valley Parkway, known for its sweeping mountain scenery and iconic railway curve below. It’s a popular photography spot and a peaceful place to enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Comfort & Convenience
Can I leave my belongings in the vehicle?
Because this is a shuttle-style service rather than a guided tour, the driver and vehicle will not remain on-site during your free time at the lake. We recommend bringing with you all personal items you may need during your 4 hours at the lake. You will return in the same van for your ride back, but belongings should not be left onboard while you are exploring.
Can I canoe at Moraine Lake during the tour?
Yes—canoe rentals are available during the summer season.

With four hours at Moraine Lake, you can choose anything from an easy lakeshore walk or the Consolation Lakes trail to more challenging hikes like Larch Valley. Hiking is optional, but this tour is ideal for guests who want time to explore beyond the lakeshore.

Do you need a park pass to visit Moraine Lake?
Yes. A valid Banff National Park entry pass is normally required. However, for summer 2026, the Canada Strong Pass provides free admission to national parks from June 19 to September 7, 2026.
Are dogs allowed at Moraine Lake?
Yes. Dogs are permitted at Moraine Lake but must be kept on a leash at all times under Parks Canada regulations. Dogs are not allowed in canoes.
Can you bring food or have a picnic at Moraine Lake?
Yes. Visitors may bring their own food and enjoy a picnic at designated areas. Please follow wildlife-safe food storage rules and pack out everything you bring.

Is Moraine Lake worth visiting?
Yes. Moraine Lake is widely considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, known for its vivid turquoise color and the dramatic Valley of the Ten Peaks.
How far is Moraine Lake from Banff?
Moraine Lake is approximately 48 km (30 miles) from the town of Banff. Travel time is about 1 to 1.25 hours depending on traffic and conditions.
Is there cell service at Moraine Lake?
No. There is no reliable cell service at Moraine Lake, so please plan accordingly and do not rely on it during your visit.
Do I need bear spray in Banff National Park?
Yes — bear spray is strongly recommended when hiking around Moraine Lake and throughout Banff National Park. The park is home to bears, elk, wolves, and other large wildlife, and bear spray is the most effective wildlife deterrent recommended by Parks Canada.
On many hiking trails—especially around Moraine Lake—Parks Canada also recommends hiking in groups of at least four people for safety. On certain trails, this is an official requirement, and failure to comply can result in fines if checked by park wardens.
Are there restrooms at Moraine Lake?
Yes. There are outhouse-style public washrooms near the lakeshore and lodge area.
Are food services available?
There is a small café at Moraine Lake Lodge, but no full-service restaurant. Guests are encouraged to bring snacks or lunch.
Is swimming allowed in Moraine Lake?
No. Swimming is not recommended. The glacier-fed water remains near freezing year-round and poses a serious risk of cold shock and hypothermia.
How much is canoeing at Moraine Lake?
Canoe rentals at Moraine Lake cost approximately $160 CAD plus tax per hour for one canoe that fits 2–3 people. Rentals are first-come, first-served and typically operate from mid-June to mid-September, depending on weather conditions.

Waiver
In order to participate all adults must sign the electronic waiver form prior to the tour. A waiver must also be completed by the parent or guardian of any child under the age of 18. Failure to complete the waiver will result in the cancellation of your tour. For your reference, please see the waiver link at the bottom of the website.
Safety stands as our utmost priority, ensuring the well-being of our young ones is imperative. As per regulations, children under the age of 6 weighing 18 kg (40 lbs) or less must be secured in an appropriate child safety seat. If possible, kindly bring your child safety seat. In the event you cannot, we do have a limited supply. Please reach out to us in advance to secure one for you.
Proper Clothing & Weather Preparedness
Mountain weather can change quickly, as our tours venture into the mountains from early sunrise through sunset and into the nighttime hours. Temperatures in the Rockies are often much cooler than in town, even in summer.
Guests must arrive dressed appropriately for cold, windy, and variable conditions. We strongly recommend:
Warm layers (including a jacket or insulated outer layer)
Long pants
Closed-toe, sturdy footwear
Gloves, hat, and additional layers for sunrise, sunset, and stargazing tours
Being properly dressed ensures your comfort, safety, and enjoyment throughout the experience. For safety reasons, we reserve the right to refuse participation if a guest is not adequately dressed for the conditions.
